| On June 13, 2006 the Jacksonville, FL City Council passed Ordinance 2006-543-E. This ordinance effectively bans the hobby of building homebuilt aircraft in Jacksonville, restoring aircraft, or storing an airplane in a residential district in other than a completely enclosed building. This regulation also includes airboats.
Our MissionThe purpose of this web site is to educate others that are affected by this ordinance, others that would be affected by similar ordinances being passed in their own towns or cities, and people that are concerned by a city council that is allowed to overstep their bounds and treat citizens unfairly. If we work together we can repeal this ordinance and help prevent similar things from happening in other places.
Who is Behind this web site?My name is Brian Kraut. I live in Jacksonville, FL. I work as an engineer and my hobby is building experimental aircraft. I am the unfortunate (or infamous, depending on who you ask) person at the sharp end of the sword called Ordinance 543-E. I have a wife and a son and I love airplanes. I am not much different than many of the tens or hundreds of thousands of other people in the USA that have built, are building, or hope to build their own airplane at home. I don't buzz city hall, I don't taxi up and down the street, I don't break FAA regulations, I don't pound rivets at three in the morning, I don't run loud engines all day long, and I don't compromise the safety or property values of my neighbors. In fact, with the exception of one neighbor that I know of, I don't cause any grief at all my neighbors.
